Roof Insurance Claims - Documentation Makes the Difference

In 2024, nearly 47% of Texas homeowner insurance claims were closed without payment. The gap between a denied claim and a full approval is almost always documentation and process - not the damage itself.

Sterling Eagle is an insured roofing contractor, not a public adjuster. We document damage, attend adjuster inspections, and provide contractor estimates. We do not negotiate insurance settlements, guarantee claim outcomes, or act as a representative of your insurance policy. All coverage decisions are made solely by your insurance carrier.

Texas Department of Insurance audits have found that insurance adjusters undervalue storm damage by 20 to 40 percent in a meaningful percentage of claims - often because they are working from inadequate documentation, because out-of-area adjusters are brought in during storm surges with limited roofing expertise, or because the first adjuster visit happens before the damage has been fully catalogued. Sterling Eagle's role in your claim is clear and legally defined: we are your roofing contractor, not your public adjuster. What we do is document your damage completely, attend your adjuster inspection in person, provide a line-item contractor estimate that reflects actual replacement costs, and assist with supplement requests when the initial adjuster estimate does not fully cover the scope of necessary work. Under the Texas Prompt Payment of Claims Act, your insurer is required to investigate your claim within 30 days and issue payment within 45 days of receiving satisfactory proof of loss. Knowing that timeline, and having complete documentation ready from day one, changes claim outcomes.

Common Questions About Insurance Claims

We serve as your contractor, not as a licensed public adjuster. Homeowners file and manage their own claims. Our role is to provide thorough damage documentation, attend adjuster meetings, and submit contractor supplement requests when covered items are missing from the initial scope. If a claim requires additional representation, we can refer you to a licensed public adjuster.

A supplement is an addendum to an approved claim scope that captures covered items the initial adjuster did not include -- such as code-required upgrades, permits, and accessories. Missing supplements may result in an incomplete restoration. We review every scope of loss and submit contractor supplement requests when warranted.

From the time you file to receiving your insurance check, the process typically takes two to six weeks depending on carrier responsiveness and claim complexity. We stay in contact with your adjuster throughout and keep you informed at every step.

Claim denials can sometimes be reviewed. We will go over the denial reason with you and provide our perspective as your contractor. If further advocacy is needed, we can refer you to a licensed public adjuster who can represent your interests through the dispute process.
